The Micah Initiative: Equipping the church to protect the vulnerable and prevent exploitation.

"You Can Never Have Too Much Information"

What is The Micah Initiative?

The Micah Initiative offers the tools and knowledge the church needs in order to protect their communities from trafficking and exploitation through healthy relationships and open communication.

Inspired by Micah 6:8 "Seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God", this initiative provides practical, biblically-based training to help churches and families thrive in environments of safety and open communication, with the goal of preventing exploitation before it starts.

Why It Matters

Exploitation thrives in spaces where people don’t know what to look for or are unsure about how to respond. Many churches care deeply about justice but aren’t sure how to take meaningful action. The Micah Initiative is designed to bridge that gap by offering clear, practical steps to identify risk, encourage open and honest conversation, and promote a culture of awareness and protection.

What the Initiative Offers

The Micah Initiative takes a methodical and well rounded approach to tackling exploitation and vulnerability by offering:

  • Introduction video: To kick-start the conversation as a community and catch the vision together.
  • Small Group Training: Conversation based education designed for different audiences and ages:
    • Children & Youth: Age appropriate education and conversation around topics such as trafficking and exploitation, bodily autonomy, and staying safe in person and online.
    • Parents & Caregivers: Education on trafficking and exploitation, how to spot red flags, how to create open dialogue and safe environment when things don't go as planned..
    • Church Leaders: Education on trafficking and exploitation, understanding and employing trauma-informed care, discipleship, action plans to create proactive prevention, and how to foster and encourage open dialogue as a community, eradicating shame based responses, allowing accountability and healing.
  • Train-the-Trainer Program:  Equipping leaders with the knowledge and tools to confidently empower their communities, effectively train others, implement prevention strategies, and create impactful and lasting change within their churches.
  • Practical Community Engagement – Advice on how to partner and engage with law enforcement, survivors, and local organizations..
  • Emergency Response & Action Plan – Clear steps for churches to follow when they encounter exploitation.

How Churches Can Get Involved

The Micah Initiative is designed for churches of all sizes and denominations. It includes engaging videos, hands-on workbooks, and easy to follow guide books, enabling churches to take practical steps like:

  • Host the Introductory Session to raise awareness within their communities
  • Launch or engage within small groups to dive deeper into the issues.
  • Train church staff and volunteers to recognize, prevent, and take action against exploitation.
  • Partner with local anti-trafficking organizations to expand impact, and provide safe spaces for survivors looking to heal within safe communities.
  • Develop  long-term strategies, making prevention an ongoing effort.
