Volunteer Position: Web App Lead Developer Volunteer

Location: Remote
Commitment: Minimum 10-20 hours per week (but can volunteer more) with flexible hours and a minimum of a 1-year commitment
Reports To: CEO and CTO

Position Overview

The Web App Lead Developer Volunteer will play a key role in developing and maintaining EVENforONE’s web application, ensuring a seamless, secure, and efficient experience for survivors of human trafficking and service providers. This position is ideal for someone passionate about using technology for social impact and creating survivor-centered digital solutions. As a developer, you will collaborate with the design and advocacy teams to build and enhance features that prioritize security, accessibility, and user experience. And as a leader you are able to proactively help drive areas like requirements discovery, self-directed project and task management with minimal oversight, and potentially guiding collaboration with other contributors towards the best technical outcomes for the organization's objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy the EVENforONE web application (we are currently just shy of MVP)
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to implement intuitive and accessible user interfaces.
  • Ensure the application is secure, scalable, and maintains high performance.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise, implementing fixes and optimizations.
  • Maintain and improve database functionality to support case management and resource pairing.
  • Integrate third-party APIs as needed to enhance app functionality.
  • Assist in documentation and code maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Work closely with the CEO, CTO, and other devs and contributors to align development efforts with organizational goals.
  • Proactively lead and find ways to contribute and help manage the overall effort to launch the app with minimal guidance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in web development (professional or project-based experience acceptable).
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks such as JavaScript, React, Node.js, Python, or similar.
  • Specifically needed: recent competency and at least 2 years experience with the Microsoft Azure Ecosystem including Azure Cloud, Windows Server, IIS, and related technologies.
  • Confidence developing, expanding, and maintaining web apps built with Blazor (C#) / .Net.
  • Experience working with databases (SQL, NoSQL, Firebase, or similar).
  • Specifically needed: recent competency and at least 2 years experience with Azure SQL / MS SQL and SSMS.
  • Familiarity with and confidence using version control systems like GitHub.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices, particularly in protecting sensitive user data.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, self-driven personality, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Passion for social impact and ethical technology development.
  • Must acquire and pass a background check.

  • Opportunities for collaboration with UI/UX designers to ensure user needs are met.
